We had the pleasure of visiting Waverley Hills Organic Wine Farm, out in Tulbagh, on the long weekend.
What a beautiful place it was! Ample parking available and beautiful gardens, with water features with a cute little bridge awaits you...as you cross over the bridge you can look down on the rolling green hills that surround you out in the country.
Once you enter the building, the wine tasting, rest rooms and restaurant, all with the same magnificent views, are all within close vicinity to each other, clean, new, classy but not over done so that you still feel at home and welcome.
We did the free and very interesting wine tasting with the lady on duty on the farm. She was pleasant, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable when asked. But let us enjoy ourselves in a relaxed environment and we didint once feel like we were wasting her time. The wines are all organic much like everything else on the farm and extremely tasty! In fact they were some of my favourites of the day. Theres one wine without added sulphites, so even those allergic to wine should be able to drink this one. Their Semillion is a delightful white wine that even folks like me who arent a white wine drinker would love. These are easy drinking wines with a concious - so bear that in mind when tasting. The deli is packed with tasty treats such as olives, olive oil and wine jellys on purchase, all organic and all from their farm.
After the lovely wine tasting we found a table at their open plan restaurant. Its very clever having the restaurant right by the wine tasting, theres no ways you can go to the wine tasting smelling those aromas all the time and not stay for a bite to eat. We had heard a lot about their gourmet pizzas and one of them were on special that day, so most of us went with the pizza. From the vegetarian one right through to the veal and rocket pizza or the special of the day biltong and avo. They were all fresh, organic, flavoursome and extremely delicious. We would go so far as to say the best pizzas we have ever had! The burger was well presented, came with a lovely little sauce and apparently was absolutely mouth-watering. Chips and the coffee was a winner too!
The service was top notch all round, with a view to die for. Definitely the place to visit when in the Tulbagh area.
