What a show! At nearly 50 years old we are incredibly impressed with Janet and the phenomenal show she brought to our beautiful sores. "Janet Jackson, up close and personal, her number 1's" was everything we imagined and more.
I must admit I was also very impressed with the way Grand West and the concert managers handled the event and the numbers of people descending on Grand West at one time. We always make it in, park and out at the end of the evening with minimal irritation. Well done to Grand West and the Concert organizers.
The show did start quite late, after 9pm, and there was no opening act. I would prefer an earlier start for these during the week concerts, say 8pm, but Janet was worth the wait. Her band was well rehearsed and very talented. We were a little dissapointed with the sound during certain parts of the show, Im not sure if that was the arena, the equipment or the sound engineer. But it almost seemed like Janet was being a tad drowned out by the band and back up singers. Perhaps thats something the Grand West Areana should look into. The dance troop was fantastic and had tons of character. I was so happy to see that they did all the old dances that goes along with the music videos and past shows, for the most part anyway. Janet was a tiny bit more toned down than her previous shows. But Miss Jackson can still move that body like Jagger!! :) Janet looks amazing for her age and she wore a pair of jeans, black T-shirt and white jacket all the way through.
The crowd danced and sang along to all our old Janet favourites. We were all especially touched by her tribute to her late brother, Michael Jackson. It was an incediable show and after been a little dissapointed by one or two of the other artisits that came out this year. Janet is a born performer and was worth the wait and the money spent.
Here's to the very Talented Jackson family and many more of these fantastic artists coming out to SA more often.
