Ocean Basket Canal Walk

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, In : Out and about

Best waiter in ages award goes to Stanley at Ocean Basket Canal Walk.
What excellent service.  Thank you Stanley.  Stanley was efficient, friendly, got the order correct, was polite and so helpful and so considerate to the fact that we had a small baby with us.  We needed to leave in a bit of a hurry and I looked up to see where he was and he was watching his customers so closely, that he immediately signalled that he knew we needed the bill and arranged our meals to be packed into take-away c...

Hudson’s Restaurant

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Monday, July 13, 2015, In : Out and about
I am a difficult customer at times, and have a list of criteria when looking for a place to eat.
Hudson’s ticked all the boxes.

You could not wish for a more beautiful setting, the immaculate garden, the wishing well, and the lake – with majestic mountains in the distance.
I was impressed with the gazebo’s in which to sit and relax or picnic. This is ideal for older people or families with babies etc, who do not want to sit on the ground or lawn.
The Restaurant has a kiddie park, and is hap...

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Thursday, April 16, 2015, In : Out and about

Greyton never disappoints! It is always clean, classy and oh so peaceful, filled with friendly people.

Thank you Greyton weekends for organising the perfect accommodation; our English Thatched Beauty

“Belvedere”

One of the most beautiful houses I have stayed in – and with the most comfortable beds.

Brian our house manager was sweet, understanding, well mannered and went out of his way to stay in touch and keep us informed of important information.  He did all that was needed to ...

Well done Pick n Pay

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, In : Out and about

Thank you and well done to Pick n pay – I received calls from the CEO – and various other departments to address my concern.
I got an immediate, positive response – and have been assured that the matter is being
dealt with.  The main issue seems to have been a transport problem which prevented staff from
coming into work, on the particular day I had the issues.

However, I still feel that the staff could do with some extra training to equip them to deal with customers.
Pick n Pay have assur...

Never shop at Canal walk at the end of the month

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, In : Out and about
What an experience – shopping at Canal walk last night – we arrived at 6pm and only got out
Of the centre after 9pm.  We usually only take an hour to whip around.

So many people think because they have no life and nothing to do with themselves that they can
Linger around – or walk 3 abreast across the corridors – or park their trolley across the aisle.
We even had one person thinking she could take a break and she actually came up to our trolley and leaned her arms on it and stood there...

Bed and Breakfast in Betty's Bay

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Monday, August 11, 2014, In : Out and about
We spent last week-end in the beautiful coastal town of Bettys Bay.

We took a slow drive through – and wound our way along the coastal road, and
Managed to get a glimpse of a whale lying in the bay just past Gordon’s Bay.

Upon arriving in the town our first sight of the scene of the recent fire, made us
Realize what a good job the fire-fighters had done.  The flames had licked the
Decks of some of the houses and had melted the drain pipes.  Some of the houses came really close to going up in...

Finally ......................My Citi

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, In : Out and about
So glad to receive the news that extra buses are now going to be added to the route.

“The first deployment, comprising nine 12-metre buses, will be on the popular T01 route (Dunoon, Table View, Civic Centre) and the recently launched T03 route (Atlantis, Table View, Civic Centre) and will unquestionably improve commuters’ experience of the MyCiTi service.
I have no doubt the extra buses will make the journey a more pleasant one.

Now what can be done about doors not working and doors closing ...

Waverley Hills Organic Wine Farm

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Friday, March 28, 2014, In : Out and about
We had the pleasure of visiting Waverley Hills Organic Wine Farm, out in Tulbagh, on the long weekend.

What a beautiful place it was! Ample parking available and beautiful gardens, with water features with a cute little bridge awaits you...as you cross over the bridge you can look down on the rolling green hills that surround you out in the country.

Once you enter the building, the wine tasting, rest rooms and restaurant, all with the same magnificent views, are all within close vicinity to eac...

Kloofzicht Country Estate – Tulbagh

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, In : Out and about
We visited the Kloofzicht Country Estate in Tulbagh this past week-end.

The main house and loft are set in stunning gardens, with a very nice, large, well maintained pool.

The loft is a beautiful old building, and everything was clean – the bed I slept on downstairs was very comfortable.
The kitchen was well-equipped but set out in a rather odd way to me, being used to
the modern way of living where everything is built in.  But then this is a restored old country loft and is decorated accordi...

Tulbagh horse Trails

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Monday, March 24, 2014, In : Out and about
Antionette of Tulbach horse trails was a pleasure to deal with.  She is organised but in a relaxed
manner. We received a sms in the morning confirming our ride.

The horses and Antionette were waiting to greet us when we arrived – and we were early.

The horses were wonderful, well taken care of – happy and extremely well-schooled.

The ride around the farm was enjoyed by all of us, the younger riders and older riders like me.

I would recommend this to anyone wanting to enjoy a relaxed ride.

Thank you to Alexander Bar – for hosting the bridal shower on the 19th October 2013.
This is such a unique little corner of cape town – the atmosphere and old furniture and the attention to detail is amazing.

We so enjoyed the added fun of being able to phone the bar from the old
Telephones.   Erica and her staff were so helpful, they bent over backwards to assist.
They answered every question and every email and supplied all the details we required.

Calm down My-Citi

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, In : Out and about
I have recently noticed the bus drivers are very impatient, and pull away before people can
embark or dis-embark.  I have seen more than one person nearly getting squashed in the doors.
Some stations only have one security person on duty.
On many occasions the station door or the bus door does not open, by the time you have
rushed to the next door, the bus is pulling away.

Surely this is a first-world invention ??  The doors should have a sensor – so that if anyone
is standing by a door – t...

My citi Bus - incident

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, In : Out and about
Last week I witnessed a paraplegic man trying to get off the my citi-bus at Wood-bridge Station.
There was only 1 person on duty and they checked both doors from where they were standing
Which was at the entrance of the station.  They shouted “Clear” but because the wheelchair
Cannot be seen from there (nor would a small child be seen), the driver started closing the door.

The passengers in the My Citi started shouting and jumped up to stop the man being caught in
Doors.

Our trip to Oudtshoorn:

What a wonderful weekend away in Oudtshoorn!

A group of us headed up to Oudtshoorn this past weekend for the Kickboxing/K1 SA Champs, hosted in Oudtshoorn this year.
We were of course supporting the Western Province team and most importantly the 4 Thaiholics fighters.

We left early on Friday morning and took a safe drive up through our beautiful province along Route 62. Every time I do a trip like this I confirm my believe that I live in the most beautiful country.
We stopped along the way for a ...

Thank you to The Goat’s Shed on Fairview farm for such an awesome lunch for Mothers Day
Yesterday.   We sampled the lunch special – tasty – melt in your mouth roast and veg, as well as the
cheese platter, and the Farm Salad.  To end the meal we enjoyed the Brandy Pudding and
Cheese Cake.  All the food was first class – and well presented.  The Menu as a good variety to choose from and the prices are reasonable, considering the quality of the food.

Quay Four - Waterfront

Sunday  10th February 2013

We popped in unexpectedly to Quay Four this Sunday.
Sorry to say Quay Four has gone done a notch or two since my last visit.
The Bathrooms were not very clean, the water in the toilet bowls were running continuously.
A glass had been broken all over the steps, and although we sat there for just on an hour,
No-one cleaned it up.
We were too scared to use the sugar served with our coffee, as the sugar bowl was very messy.

The couches need a good scrub, there is a huge diffe...

When travelling on the my citi, I, for the first time in a long time, was impressed with the progress we
are making in this country.

The buses are running frequently enough, they are clean and in good condition.

Most of the staff at the stations are friendly and are well informed.

The added bonuses, as compared to catching the normal buses, is that you have a well-lit,
Secure and warm place to wait out of the wind and rain.  You know the bus will be along

This week-end we stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage on the property of Tristan and Dorothy Hess
In Greyton.

We have paid many visits to this beautiful town and know it very well.  We always stay on the Old side of Greyton and near to the Market area of the town.

This time we decided to stay on the complete opposite side,  close to the mountain and nature
Reserve as we were looking for some relaxing time to recharge our spirit.

We found the cottage to be so cute, extremely neat and clean and very home...

A beautiful wedding at Groenrivier Function Center

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Monday, September 10, 2012, In : Out and about
We were privileged enough to be invited to a beautiful Scottish inspired wedding at Groenrivier Function Center in Riebeeck Kastel.

The couple are dear friends of ours and sharing their special day with them at this quaint, country styled venue was amazing.  The venue its self is rustic and old, with lots of character. The views all around you of mountains, farms and animals cant be beat. The staff there did a fabulous job setting things up and making the place look exactly as her and her Mom ...

We arrived unknowingly to be told they were unable to assist us and they apologised, the manager phoned and booked a table for us at Mama Cucina (Italian country kitchen)
And we received a complimenta...

Vertical secrets, Pole dancing for fitness

The pole dancing studio itself is small, but very nicely done out with all the things you need at a dance studio. A nice little bathroom and kitchenette, little office, wooden floors, mirrors all round and of course lots of poles set up for dancing.

Juanita, the Vertical Secrets instructor, organised with the braidsmaids that we could all arrive at 6pm and enjoy some drinks and eats,...

You cannot describe the wonderment of hearing that old train start up and chug out of the station.

The sound of a steam train is not something you hear anymore. I got goosebumps and was so excited when the train tooted, leaving the station in Cape Town and headed out on her journey. You can feel ...

I don’t agreed with Zoo’s and having animals in cages, the perfect situation would be that they
All enjoyed freedom.
But in certain circumstances it is the only solution, and Tygerberg Zoo have strived for decades
To give these animals a good home.  The Zoo has been a place where families can enjoy the day
Together and hopefully be educated about the wildlife.

We drove up in the heat of Saturday, car read 36.5 degrees! 38 degrees in Wellington itself! I had booked us in at the Blouvlei B and B in Wellington itself. They were efficient, friendly and organised and at R 200 ...

The bus ride Experience

Posted by Dannielle Connections on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, In : Out and about
Why do they have bus shelters that have closed sides at the Golden Arrow Bus stops ????
I understand that it is an ideal place to advertise that juicy burger,
But the purpose of a bus shelter is to give the passengers waiting shelter from the wind and the rain and of course the sun.
If you stand inside the this type of bus shelter – you are sheltered, but the bus drives past
Because you are not able to see it approaching.

So the decision was made to stand outside the bus shelter and forget abou...
