We spent last week-end in the beautiful coastal town of Bettys Bay.

We took a slow drive through – and wound our way along the coastal road, and
Managed to get a glimpse of a whale lying in the bay just past Gordon’s Bay.

Upon arriving in the town our first sight of the scene of the recent fire, made us
Realize what a good job the fire-fighters had done.  The flames had licked the
Decks of some of the houses and had melted the drain pipes.  Some of the houses came really close to going up in flames, and sadly a few houses did burn, but I think it could have been a lot worse.

We had lunch at Jack’s Café – the food was home-made and very nice.  The vegetable
Soup was served with literally a mini loaf of bread.  The steak and mushroom pie
Was a decent sized pie and full of meat.  The atmosphere was relaxed and very homely.
I did think the prices were a little high.

After checking into our Bed and Breakfast, we rushed off to see the Penquins at
Stony Point, before it closed at 5pm.  So glad to see these penquins protected and living happily on the beach.  The treat of the day was a single playful whale who decided to
Give us a private show, rising high above the water and then throwing himself down
Crashing back into the sea – I have never seen a whale having so much fun.

We had supper at The Tides – a tiny little restaurant with a huge heart.
We sat at the fireside and enjoyed what was possibly one of the best meals ever.
The portions were huge – and incredibly tasty – the vibe welcoming and the lady who
Served us – was one of the best waitrons I have ever seen.  I can highly recommend this
Restaurant and the prices were extremely reasonable.

Our one night stay was spent at Bucaco Sud – up on the mountain side with a view
Of the entire Bay.  This guest house is classy and classic and, I felt as though I was in another country and relaxing in a castle.  This bed and breakfast is tastefully decorated and although most of the places I have stayed at were clean, Bucaco Sud was Super-Clean.

We were served a wonderful breakfast – at our leisure on the Sunday morning  and we felt very pampered by the kind, sweet Beatie who has taken her career of running a bed and breakfast to another level by providing a true home from home to her guests.
Nothing was too much trouble for Beatie.

The Sunday morning we took a long walk around the Harold Porter Botanical gardens.
These gardens are very well kept, and found the the lay-out very informative and nature has provided a garden of Eden.  I would not recommend eating here, however as the
Food and the service were very disappointing.
